Ken Neeld, owner of Optimum Result Fitness in Gastonia, does not bill the facility as a gym, a health club, or a spa. Instead, he prefers the label “Wellness Solution Center.”

“Wellness is not just a physical thing,” he said. “It’s about more than exercise. It’s about diet. It’s about rest and recovery. It’s about mental and emotional health. You have to look at the big picture.”

Helping clients see that “big picture,” and then providing them with the tools and the expertise to meet reasonable goals is what Neeld and facility general manager Trey Miles see as Optimum Result’s mission.

“There are a lot of great gyms and clubs in Gaston County,” Neeld said. “Don’t want to take anything away from any of them. But we want to fill the gaps in the market. We want to help those who may be under-served.

Optimum Result is located on Robinwood Road, just east of Union Road, in what was for years the Armstrong Athletic Club.

That club, its staff, and its equipment merged with the Warlick Family YMCA when it opened in December of 2017.

Neeld, a graduate of Appalachian State University, served in the Army’s medical corps after college and then became a medical device salesman, a career which spurred his interest in health and wellness.

Miles, who has been a personal fitness trainer for the past 16 years, said, “I’ve seen what all the major chains offer, but I think what is too often missing is a helpful relationship with clients. I have a passion for helping people see a positive impact in their lives.”

Miles said when new clients join the facility they are first engaged in a sit-down, face-to-face strategy session with an analysis of their body composition and a setting of realistic, achievable goals.

“We set reasonable goals and celebrate small victories,” Miles said. “The goal is to keep our clients engaged, to help them stay motivated, and to keep them accountable to themselves.”

Neeld echoed Miles’ comments, saying, “We want to work with everyone, no matter what their scale of activity. We work with people who are grossly obese and with people who are athletic. We take it case by case. No matter where you are, you can see progress.”

The facility is equipped with a host of cardio and weight equipment and its technology enables members to track their heart rate and other indicators while exercising.

Among the group classes offered at Optimum Result are boxing, BURN, BARRE, yoga, GRX, and deep stretch.

The facility also offers a meal planning service for those needing help with their diets.

Among the more unusual therapies offered by Optimum Result is its TuneBed, a device which combines sound and vibration technologies to help balance the body and bring about a sense of happiness and well-being.

Optimum Result is open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Group classes are scheduled every day but Sunday.

More information is available at the Optimum Result website or its Facebook page.
